I agree that leadership abilities can be substantially improved given the opportunity for feedback and practice. However for leadership abilities to be improved, there must be a strong desire and persistence to lead which is also stated in the quote above. I believe that you are “born” with a desire to lead. If one has no desire to lead then they will not take advantage of opportunities to improve leadership skills and take on leadership roles.
Preston, I agree with you in that you need an actual desire to lead in order to be a leader. A strong drive and motivation is all it takes for somebody to become whatever it is that they want. Leaders have to be self-driven people that want to make an impact on a person or organization.
ReplyDeleteAppreciate the post, Preston, though I think you are a bit light on the analysis. For example, I am not sure I see one as being born with a desire to lead, per se. I think one gets exposed to someting, develops a passion for it, and from that passion a desire to make a difference in that area arises. As you continue to post, seek ways to tie the post back to our discussions from class!
